I live out in the country in midcoast Maine, on an acre backed by birch woods, with a stream running through the back yard and wildlife making appearances – deer, frogs, great blue herons. I like the Midcoast, and I think I’m happier here then I have ever been before, though part of my heart is still in Portland (Maine) where I lived before I came here.

Since my senior year in high school I have been singularly driven to become a published and widely read author. I dropped out of college to write my first novel, and ended up writing three of them over four years. Since thenĀ I’ve only written one other book, Mailbox Gigantic, but it is the longest, and I’m quite sure it’s the best.

I love books and until recently have made my career with them. Along the way I’ve discovered a love of design.

I don’t listen to music as often as I feel I should, and I don’t read very quickly.

I am deeply affected by the quality of light in Maine, and though that may be a cliche, I’m comfortable with it.

I have an imagination that is bent, over-active, and, at times a bit personally destructive.

A few books that I love: Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrel, Coming Through Slaughter, Oryx and Crake, Jitterbug Perfume, Bluebeard, Vineland, Hyperion, Norwegian Wood. I read tons of graphic novels especially those by Neil Gaiman and Alan Moore, but also many many others. I am a fan of Maigret and of Harry Potter. I love classic sci-fi and YA – the Dark is Rising, A Wrinkle in Time, Ring World, Death World. I read slowly but very deliberately.

On this website I’ve posted a whole bunch of things – art, photos, design, writing. I don’t claim to be great at all of them – or really any of them – but I love to make all of them, and so I thought it made sense to share them, as they make up a good portion of who I am. Add in my absolutely unquenchable and overwhelming love for my wife and children and you get a pretty good sense of what I’m all about.
