About Me

I’ve been involved with book publishing for more than a decade.   I’ve published my own books, published other peoples’ books as part of my own micro-press.  I’ve worked for a major publishing house, worked for a medium sized niche publisher, and am currently the managing editor for a small regional press in Maine. And up until I took that job I was briefly the president of the board of the Telling Room an 826 Valencia-like free writing center for kids 6-18.

I started writing fiction seriously my senior year in high school and I chose it because I wasn’t very good at it, no one had ever praised me for it, and it was a smart ass, puzzling, and bizarre choice of interests considering my aptitudes and talents at the time.  Another reason, I’m guessing, was that while I was a mediocre english student and an average to slow reader, I grew up surrounded by books, my father read me everything that he should have, and many things that were probably over my head, and I have an over active and somewhat strange imagination.  Also, I have an uncanny memory for stories.

I continue to write fiction and figure that if I just keep at it, eventually all the other hopeful novelists will give up or die and there will be no choice left but to publish me.
